Welcome

Barnum Ecological Nature Zone Inc. is dedicated to preserving our forests for future generations as the preferred method of climate control. According to the United Nations climate change is now affecting every country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow. Weather patterns are changing, sea levels are rising, weather events are becoming more extreme and greenhouse gas emissions are now at their highest levels in history. Without action, the increase in the world’s average surface temperature is likely to surpass 3 degrees centigrade this century.

What can you do?

One of the greenhouse gases that you can have an impact on is carbon dioxide (CO2). The average American was responsible for 11,444 pounds of carbon emissions last year, which equates to about 31.3 lbs/day.

A typical hardwood tree can absorb as much as 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year which equates to 0.13 lbs/day and can produce about 0.6 lbs/day of oxygen. A healthy forest has 40 to 60 trees per acre. Therefore, 4 acres of healthy forest can absorb the daily CO2 emissions of one average American and produce enough oxygen to support 32 people.
